Program description:
The BA course in Netherlandic Studies aims to train professionals in Dutch language, as well as Dutch/Flemish literature, culture and history, who are able to use this language on an advanced level, both in writing and speaking (level C1) and use it in their professions. Moreover, they gain in-depth theoretical and practical knowledge of Dutch literature, culture and history. The three-year BA program does not provide teaching qualifications.

This program is recommended to applicants who are interested in languages, literature, translation, cultural studies, media, intercultural communication and cultural diplomacy. It is especially recommended to those, who are interested in studying the Dutch language, cultures and literatures on academic level.

This program enables students to learn the Dutch language on a professional level, use it in academic writing, as well as everyday oral argumentation in a scholarly and business environment. Students will thus attain the foundations of academic research, evaluation and critical thinking in literature, Dutch and Flemish socio-political history, and develop an understanding of the linguistic levels of description and analysis of Dutch (phonology and syntax).

Strength of program:
The BA program in Netherlandic Studies aims to provide the fundaments (language, linguistic, literary and cultural studies) necessary for the philological study of The Netherlands and the Flemish part of Belgium to its graduates. Our program results in graduates with not only proficiency in the Dutch language, but also a familiarity with the societies and cultures of the countries where Dutch is spoken as the first language. Our graduates will be familiar with fields and methods of academic research and will be able to meet the requirements of the MA course.
The Department participates in several high-profile international research networks and projects (DCC, CELSA, PETRA-E, Eastbound-CODL). Students acquire the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills that can be utilised in both private and public-sector establishments.
• Level of language proficiency corresponds to C1 level (proficiency) of CEFR. Language of instruction in the courses is Dutch (with the exception of the translation and interpretation courses, where Hungarian is also used).
• Students are eligible for admission to MA programs.

Het Bachelor programma in Nederlandse taal richt zich op de trainen van professionals voor het gebruik van de Nederlandse taal op geavanceerd niveau, zowel op spraak- en schrijf gebied (C1 niveau), zodat zij Daarnaast zal de student theoretische en praktische kennis opdoen in Nederlandse literatuur, cultuur en geschiedenis. Het Bachelor programma heeft een duratie van 3 jaar. Het programma is verdeelt in twee periodes: tijdens het eerste jaar het opdoen van basis kennis, en tijdens het tweede en derde jaar als hoofdvak. Aan het einde van beide periodes zal een complex examen plaatsvinden. Aan het begin van het eerste jaar zal dit een filter examen zijn, een eindexamen vindt plaats aan het einde van de tweede periode (einde van derde jaar). De kennis die de student opdoet zal hem of haar in staat stellen om: – taken in verschillende sectoren, zoals toerisme, economie, media en publicatie, culturele en publieke zaken te managen en organiseren – teksten van algemeen niveau te vertalen en interpreteren – zichzelf te familiariseren met sociale, economische, en milieu-gerelateerde vraagstukken in Hongarije, Nederland, en het Vlaams sprekende gedeelte van Belgie« – de kennis toe te passen binnen een specifiek vakgebied Het programma richt zich op voorbereiden van studenten op gespecialiseerd onderwijs op Master niveau. Afgestudeerden hebben de mogelijkheid door te studeren op Master niveau.

Entrance exam description:
The application documents are processed by the Department of International Affairs and then forwarded to the department responsible for the given degree programme. The department checks the documents and organizes an interview by telephone, online (e.g. Skype) or in person. After the entrance interview, the department comes to a decision and informs the Department of International Affairs.

BA graduates are sought after by multinational companies in the region for their language skills and knowledge of Dutch. They are eligible to work towards an MA degree in Netherlandic Studies.
