The aim of the Hungarian BA program is to provide students with a professional level of Hungarian in its language and literature. The program offers language training based on the experience of the Hungarian as a Foreign Language Department of Eötvös Loránd University, and also emphasizes the importance of literary and cultural studies. Eastern, and Eastern-Central Europe are in the position to become central actors in cultural and economic connections between Asia and Europe. This can be seen as a developing trend that will grow in the coming years. Budapest, as the capital of Hungary is one of the hubs in the region and the center of Hungarian culture. Students of the Hungarian BA program specialize in Hungarian as a Foreign Language.

Strength of program
The professional understanding of not only the Hungarian language but also Hungarian literature and culture, and several of the cultural factors that define Europe at an international level will position graduate students favourably in becoming actors in this quickly developing economic and cultural field. Eötvös Loránd University is located on two main campuses around city centre and boasts nearly 30,000 students and a thriving university life. It is one of the largest universities in Eastern-Central Europe and houses the world’s most prestigious institutes for the study of Hungarian language, tradition, history, culture and art. Students enrolling in the program will be learning from many academics who are leading figures in their fields, guaranteeing the highest possible standard of training.

Entrance exam description:
The application documents are processed by the Department of International Affairs and then forwarded to the department responsible for the given degree programme. The department checks the documents and organizes an interview by telephone, online (e.g. Skype) or in person. After the entrance interview, the department comes to a decision and informs the Department of International Affairs.

Career opportunities:
Those holding a Bachelor of Arts degree in Hungarian BA are eligible for admission to the Hungarian Studies MA or similar philological degrees. They will be able to work in different fields, such as journalism, education in non-state founded schools, government organizations, diplomacy and any other jobs that do not require degree-specific skills.

Job examples:
Academic: BA graduates are eligible for admission to MA in Hungarian Studies or similar philological degrees. Out of University careers: journalism, teaching Hungarian in non-state funded schools, government organizations, diplomacy, any other job not requiring degree-specific skills, etc.
