Overview
Our Social Work bachelor study programme is designed to prepare students for
high-level professional practice. Social Workers are employed in a variety of
multi-professional settings. They support individuals, families and communities
that experience difficulties in their lives. The programme provides students with
critical-reflective thinking skills necessary to understand the socio-cultural
context of their work. Bachelor of Social Work graduates are aware of the
complexity and dynamics of social systems and human behaviour. They are
committed to values and ethics of Social Work and act according to the
principles of social justice. Social workers promote the development of
democratic social relations and social integration.

Social Work BA study programme is a practice-oriented programme with approximately 65% of practical training elements. The programme includes 210 ECTS and 7 semesters. The study programme comprises courses in Theory and Practice of Social Work (75 ECTS), Social Policy (20 ECTS) Sociology (25 ECTS), Economics (4 ECTS), Social Law and Administration (12 ECTS), Psychology& Education (20 ECTS), Public Health (8 ECTS) and an Interdisciplinary Module (3 ECTS).
Within the area of Social Work, students may choose from three specializations:
Community Work, Addiction Studies, and Child Welfare. Most of the courses are 4-5 ECTS each, what requires substantial individual work supported by regular consultations with lecturers. Thesis Work equals to 10 ECTS. Electives of students’ own preference are 10 ECTS.
Students are required to spend the 7th semester on placement (30 ECTS), depending on their personal interests and institutional offers.
In accordance with the goals and practical orientations of the programme, as well as the relatively high number of ECTS/course, students are required to write reflective diaries, midterm tests or essays, and enter into joint professional discussions. For theoretical subjects, term exams are introduced.
The minimum amount of credits to be collected in every semester is 18 credits.
