Overview

The Biology MSc line offers full 2-year-education in biology. The study
program for the full-time training offers a complete education in biology, with
special directions particularly in molecular biology (neurobiology, genetics,
microbiology), and animal and plant ecology. Special directions from the second
semester offers more laboratory practice in molecular biology or more courses
in ecology. The basic subjects are presented in lectures, seminars and laboratory
or field work. The program provides a wider view of the related scientific fields
(biophysics, biological chemistry). The students will familiarize their knowledge
with the most modern instrumentation in our new research centre. It covers all
aspects of education, research and innovation in the fields of biomedical, natural
and environmental sciences. It also provides an opportunity to join the research
work in 22 different research groups operating in the building. The program
requires completion of 120 credits.

Programme structure

Altogether 120 credits are required to obtain a degree. Out of the 120 credits,
obligatory courses take 60% of it. Elective courses and Facultative courses take
out the rest of it. Approximately 20 credits of elective ones and 6 credits of
Facultative (Optional) ones. Thesis consultation and Thesis writing worths
another 30 credits and it is combined into the curriculum. From the third year, it
is required to choose a speciality.

At the Faculty of Sciences, the education is provided in a system of seminars,
laboratoris and lectures. Lectures are held for bigger audiences, sometimes
combined for similar sciences field together. At the end of the semester students
have to pass written or oral examinations. Seminars are usually more informal
study groups for a smaler group of students, where there is room for individual
consultation, discussion of the material and solving exercises. They usually
conclude with an independently written paper or an examination.

The grading system generally used by Hungarian higher education institutions is
the following:
•The highest grade is 5 excellent.
•Grade 4 is good.
•Grade 3 is satisfactory.
•Grade 2 is a pass.
•Grade 1 is a fail – the course must be repeated.

The minimum amount of credits to be collected in every semester is 18.
