Overview

Program description:
Preparatory course in Hungarian language at Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences is designed for international students who would like to apply for admission to a degree course taught in Hungarian. This 38-week course covers one academic year from September to July and it contains more than 1300 contact hours. Tuition involves 40 lessons per week. Ten classes a week are dedicated to cooperative language learning in which our buddy system helps. Furthermore, the programme offers three shorter courses during the training: a 15-hour course in English that provides students of different origins with basic knowledge of intercultural communication at the beginning of the academic year, a 24-hour course on Hungarian culture during the first semester to enhance the better understanding of it, and a 64-hour Hungarian for Special Purposes course, which is scheduled for the second semester. Students can choose one/two out of four different modules: natural sciences, business and economics, agriculture and environment, and technical studies. The main objective of the preparatory course is to develop students’ speaking, reading, listening and writing skills in Hungarian so as to attain intermediate (B2) level. We also focus on developing our students’ soft skills and personal competences, raising their intercultural awareness, and giving them an opportunity to establish strong ties to Hungary and Hungarian culture.
